Ok so now that my car is back on the road I have a question for the body guys. I was told when i did my initial asking of the question, "how do I remove these body panels" to cut the acorn bolts off with a hand held dremel. Well i just picked up a dremel today but the new question I have is...
If i am to cut these bolts off, how do i go about securing the panels again once i get the rust taken care of underneath?

I am excited to get things done on this car but i want to make sure i cover all my bases with people that have rounded them many times!

Any info that can be given on taking care of surface rust would be great too. I mean ive seen it done many times and have a general idea but it will be the first time i tackle it myself so any info would be great.

reattaching the the panels may be a problem if you cut them off like that... I suppose you could drill in your own threaded studs like what we do on spoilers... but it would be a pain on something that small and thin... You might have better luck just trying to find some new door pieces that are not all rusted to ****... If you are painting it anyways it does not really matter about the color, and they can be had pretty cheap from somone on the forum or salvage...

As for surface rust, get a wire wheel on a drill/grinder and go to town... make sure you get ALL of it... Part of the metal will be gone from the corrosion so make sure you rustproof/seal/highbuild primer.. and block sand like ****... That is assuming it is JUST surface rust... check out www.autobody101.com Great forum, TONS of good info...

thanks.. yea i was thinking of getting new panels but i really didnt know how to go about doing it. I guess i could ask around the forum! Thanks for the info on the body work though. I know that on the doors its just surface rust. Other places like under the rocker panel molding im affraid to look but i have a buddy that does body work. And i figure even if i cant get him to do it, if i have all the small tedious things done, a shop could easily and hopefully fix the major issues for cheap.
