I have tried searching, so please **** off if that is what you plan on saying :)

I recently purchased a new head unit for my car and am now running into issues over the installation options...
The output from the deck is 50W (RMS) per channel, which is without a doubt lower than the output of the stock amp. This leaves me now with three options. For option one I could run everything as stock from the head unit back. With option two I can just run the speaker wires straight from the deck to the speaker similar to what you would find in a regular SLO set up. For option three I can run my RCAs back to a new amp in the trunk and use the existing lines running to the speakers.
Option one is pure silliness. Why on earth would someone try that?!
Option two seems to be okay, but then I have to rewire the speakers, and this also means that while I am in the door messing around I would likely replace the speakers in exchange for something of high fidelity. This seems expensive.
Option three seems even more expensive considering I would have to run RCAs, buy an amp, and buy higher wattage speakers.

What have you done? What would you recommend? How are the stock speakers when run off a high power head unit? I am a stickler for fidelity- sure Sony Xplods are loud, but what is the point when they sound so terrible?!
Cheers,
carter

When i had my atx i just used the second set of wires under the dash to bypass the amps. I had a pioneer 6600 and it sounded good with the stock speakers. I did the same with my 92, but the speakers had already been upgraded.

Pull out your stock head unit and look into the hole to the left side. There should be a set of connectors that look similar to the ones that supply the power to the head unit but with a different colored connector. This is a "Premium Jumper" that goes from the amps in the rear to this connector and then from this connector to the speakers. You can use it to gain direct access to the speakers (but not the sub).

This is how it looks behind my SHO's dash:

RadioConnects.jpg

#1 plug is used for hooking up the HU to the amplifier. The amp in turn drives the speakers and subwoofer

#2 plug is used for battery power/ignition/ground, which I asume all HU's need and use in some manner

#3 plug is used for bypassing the amplifier setup and hooking up the HU directly to the speakers

#4 plug is for the redundant radio controls on the instrument panel
