There isn' a sensor per say, but a module behind the appropriate side under the bumper cover. It' actually called a Side Obstical Detection Module (L or R for the associated side). Looks like the this older unit the module controls the LED in the mirror too. When you say it' inop the module may not be bad. Check codes first.
Does the LED still prove out when starting the car?

Well. Depending in what scanner you used it might not pick up body codes as I don' think that would be a O.B.D. II required D.T.C.
Engine operation would not affect S.O.D. operation. I would hate to habe you pay a dealership to program a module for an easy circuit fault.
Thanks. It has not worked for about one month yesterday it started working. I am going to get under the car and put some electrical grease in the connection.I do know that when I was having some problems years ago on my driver's blind spot system, the dealer replaced a module behind the mirror. They said that when the opened it up, it "practically fell out". John's idea about swapping the bumper modules is an excellent one. If that proves the bumper module good, then look into how to do the same with the devices in the mirror housings, if possible.
