I have tried to find everything I can about this problem, but the more I read the more confused I get.
so..here`s the deal...
car goes from cold to hot at low speeds but, if I get it on the freeway it stays sorta cold...I can feel the air from the vents slow to a crawl b-4 it does it`s cold to hot thing.
The clicking noise starts every time I fire her up(dreaded clicking noise??) and I need the A/C here in the south...
It`s a 1989 MTX
I have asked a lot of questions since joining this forum...I hope
the old saying"no such thing as a dumb question" will hold up...

I don't think so. A broken blend door would make a "thud" when you are driving and then start blowing fire out of the vents. You may just need a recharge? Hopefully some AC gurus can help with this one.

If you haven't already, run the "HVAC Self-Test". It may give you a clue as to where your problem is. If the problem is with the control systems, the test should show it; if it is in the AC system itself, you will probably need to keep looking. Here is instructions for the test:

(FYI, the whole www.shotimes.com website has a lot of info on various topics, take a look around, it is a good resource). :thumb:

Sounds like a broken blend door or BDA issue to me.

P.S. I thought the '89s had manual controls....?

thanks everyone.....
now I really appreciate my best friend`s quote:
the more stuff(_ _ _ _ ) on the car,the more problems you are going to have...
He lives up north and is proud finding a car with roll-up windows and no air.
since I did the eatc test it`s been working enough that I don`t boil on the way home from work...
go figure???
I will most likely do the "glovebox" thing until I retire and have a week to do the procedure.
ie: if you see an add a few years from now with a 1989 sho with dash needing re-assembly..
It was mine ha ha
