Quality Always Shoots Straight
I just like having the data, kind of an early warning system. I'm happy that it shows my filters were a good choice but was a little surprised at the viscosity (not that it was horrible ). I've always changed my oil at 5-6k miles and don't intend to change that, but the report is a tool to see what's actually going on, not just a gut feeling. Royal Purple is pretty dark fresh out of the container, so color change isn't a great indicator and my oil seemed to have a pronounced fuel smell when I changed it, but the report showed very little fuel dilution. My second car is a 97 Montero Sport that I've owned since 1998, It doesn't see the use that it once did now that I own the SHO, but the engine is quiet as a church mouse at 265,000 miles using Valvoline, and Valvoline Max Life. No mechanical failures and when I opened it up a while back to change out the timing belt, cam seals, and valve guide seals, etc the engine was completely clean only having a slight orange tint to the aluminum parts inside. I drive 50 miles a day with about a 50/50 split between city and highway at and average highway speed in the 70's on an un tuned engine. Changing your oil is probably one of the most important things you do for your vehicle. I'm going to start looking at the sites and see the reports on our 3.5l boosted engines and see what the data shows, unfortunately there's no field for the oil and air filter used. Just like pids can show you info on your tune, I think these oil reports have their merits. I've got a REX catch can sitting on the shelf, think I'll put it on and see if anything changes a couple changes from now.
