Yeah, this sucks. I've been sitting here all morning thinking about how good a black interior would look with my red car.

Nice wiring mess :p . You do know that on 2nd gens the dash wiring just unplugs from the car. That would make reattaching the harness to the dash a bit easier.

On the '92 we pulled the dash from it didn't unplug. Trust me I checked. ;)

Yea but that was an MTX. When I pulled the dash from my '93 ATX parts car I just unplugged the main harness under the hood and it popped right through the fire wall.

Too bad I didn't swap the interior from a '93... would have saved a little work.

but it's doooone. Had to reuse the mocha passenger airbag because the plugs were different; and I still have a mocha drivers bag too because '92s have older style wheels but I'd already changed to a newer black leather wheel . Also the clocks had different wiring but since they don't interchange between the dash bezels I just left it unplugged.

here go the pics.

Project!

I'd never have the fortitude to even start that project. Just seeing the ball of wires there makes me think my Mocha really actually looks pretty good now...

Nice job! :thumb:

Hey that thing looks killer. I have lots of black parts lined up to do my black interior swap, but not everything yet. What is this buisness about unplugging the whole harness at once for the dash? Like a main harness connector. If I could avoid having to remove the harness when I swap my dash, that would be freaking amaizing! Could someone provide some information about that please?

:salute: on your interior my friend

Here is what I know about the dash harnesses: On the 1st gen cars (and possibly 92-93 MTX cars) the main harness (the part that goes through the firewall) has a 6 foot or so pigtail that goes along the cowl with a number of connectors, there is also another pigtail that goes under the master cylinder and it has several connectors. On the ATX cars and 94-95 MTX cars (and possibly 92-93 MTX cars) the main harness only goes under the master cylinder and just has 1 big connector on it making it much easier to remove. There are also some connectors in the kick panels on the drivers and passengers sides and if it's an ATX a few wires go to the shifter.

From doing exactly one dash swap, I will never willingly do it again. I would rather drop a tranny, replace a clutch, or pull an engine before doing a dash again.

That being said, it's not a "hard" job per se, just very time consuming. Also VERY helpful to have a second person. The dash can be difficult to hold up and try to bolt down at the same time :bonk:

After doing it once, I'm sure doing a dash would be about 100 times easier again, but I'd still just prefer to stay away. The heater core or BDA replacement probably wouldn't be too bad, though
