I have a question or two on this swap. I have a 94 MTX.

I tried doing the search thing, but I really didn't find a thread in a couple of pages of searching, maybe I missed it.

Here is what I want to do.
Get a 94-95 dash harness and populate that wiring into my black dash. Mainly so, I don't have to take my DD down for more than a day to do the swap. Then get another blend door box already to get swapped in with a new heater core, BDA, then make sure that one is all good and greased. The more ready to go, the better.

Does it matter if the dash harness comes out of a 94 or 95? Does it matter if it is an ATX or MTX dash harness?

AFAIK the dash harnesses are the same 94-95, but they are MTX and ATX specific.

The dash harness on the 94 and 95 are almost the same, but are not quite, as I recall. iirc, there are differences in the population of the large connectors that go in the kick panel by the drivers left feet. the same wires are there, but they are in different connectors, which have different terminals on them, so you cannot just unplug from one connector and into the other. I made a little cross jumper harness when I put the 95 dash into the wagon.

Also, the connector that is used to get the signals to/from the rear abs sensors are different between 94 and 95, but I don't recall if that is in the dash harness or if that bypasses the dash harness. I made a little cross jumper harness for that too.

those are the only differences I recall.

While I can agree with you on this, my dash is cracking on the ends. I have pulled 2 prior to this, and helping Bubba on his wife's car, pulling the mocha dash out to change to a black one. Probably not doing it until spring, maybe sooner.

It really isn't too bad if you give yourself enough time. I think what is going to suck is to remove the AC lines from the heater core/blend door box.

Pulling the dash sucks .

So, looks like I need a 94 MTX dash harness then. At least that is what it sounds like to eliminate any surprises.

or cut those 4 connectors and a short length of wire on each side from a junkyard car, and then you can make the crossover harness - that is what I basically did.

EDIT
In fact, its only 2 of those connectors that are affected - I can probably dig up the wiring adaptation for you if you need.

Yeah, that would be great! ;) Thank you.

OK, lets see if I can create this in a way that is understandable.....

The 2 connectors in question are the 8-pin that has sort of a "T" shape and the 14-pin that is sort of a "D" shape, both are in the kick panel by the driver's A-pillar.

Unfortunately, my wiring manual does not list pin numbers for these connectors. The good news is that the wire colors did not change, so you can just connect up the corresponding colored wires.

93/94 body:

8-pin, starting at one leg of the "T" and going around
22 - LB/BK
612 - PK/O
613 - DB/W
623 - P/W
689 - DB
614 - GY/O
611 - W/O
19 - LB/R

14-pin, starting at the 'inside' end of the "D"
811 - DG/O
805 - W/LG
941 - BK/W
gap
478 - T/O
813 - LB/W
804 - O/LG
'outside'
104 - LB/O
463 - R/W
105 - R/W
563 - O/Y
85 - BR/LB
103 - W/R
102 - W
810 - R/LG

95 dash:
8-pin, starting at the same leg of the "T"
22 - LB/BK (same)
804 - O/LG
810 - R/LG
811 - DG/O
689 - DB
805 - W/LG
813 - LB/W
19 - LB/R (same)

14-pin, described in same order
623 - P/W
614 - GY/O
941 - BK/W
gap
478 - T/O
611 - W/O
612 - PK/O
104 - LB/O
463 - R/W
105 - R/W
563 - O/Y
85 - BR/LB
103 - W/R
102 - W
613 - DB/W

Your connectors may not have all of those locations populated, since some of the locations are for power to rear wiper and rear washer, etc. on the wagon, but the rest should be as described. You will note that about half are in the same locations, the other half have been moved to the other connector.

The wires that have been moved are for speaker wiring and airbag system wiring, so it is important to get them connected properly.

Best wishes!

So for clarification sake, is it the dash harness side of those connections that get changed??

IF so, being that I have a 94 mtx, I could use the 93 mtx dash harness??

And if I get a 95 mtx dash harness, then swap the pins/wires on the dash side of the harness to match the 94 body harness??

Unfortunately, its not that easy, because the 93 and 94 dash harnesses are not the same either, but the section I referenced above is.

On the 93 and earlier, the wiper motor had 2 connectors. On the 94 and later, the wiper motor has one larger connector. You can use the 93 dash harness in your car if you change the wiper motor to a 93 style. iirc, that is the only difference between 93 and 94.

You cannot just swap the pins/wires because the pins are completely different in the 2 connectors that are used, so you have to splice wires in some manner.

When I did an interior swap from a '92 into my '93 I just used the entire dash harness from my '93. FWIW the entire interior swap only took 2 days. (http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=55503)
