Anything is good as long as you change your oil on time. To awnser your question, it seems a lot of people around here have good luck with catrol GTX. I run GTX High Mileage in the 206K 89 and it seems to be doing well and not burning as much oil.

This has been hashed over and over and over on the forum...

Oil is oil... as long as you change it (and the filter) as you're supposed to it doesn't really matter. I personally run 10W30 GTX High Mileage in the summer and 5W30 in the winter.

Fresh oil at regular intervals is the best oil. Organic or synthetic, whatever you think is best and you feel comfortable paying for. Everybody has a different opinion on brands and types, you really have to make up your own mind as to what oil serves you best.

That being said, I wouldn't recommend using a 15w50 in a SHO motor. The factory spec is for 5w30, with the option of 10w30 in warmer climes. I currently run 10w40 in my '92 to combat oil consumption due to leaky valve stem seals, but the motor has almost 200K on it, and if it blows up I don't care. I think going to a 15w50 or 20w50 would risk oil flow problems.

Ask Spdatt if oil is just oil....I don't think the picture of all the different heads next to each other is still hosted on this forum, but you will find that some oils leave a lot of deposits in the engine, Penzoil is one example of an oil that tends to do this. Many here including myself have found that by using Castrol GTX or Mobil 1 Synthetic oil the oil deposits are significantly less. It is nice to know that your oil is keeping the engine clean.

PS I found a picture of a highly carameled head on this page http://members.cox.net/neshospecialists/photoalbum.htm

Let me just say that there was also a picture here on the forum of a pennzoil fed SHO that had a good oil change history, and the pic showed the SAME condition as sdpatts internals; NO carmelazation or deposits. I guess some people like to forget about that pic. I will say it once more, it doesnt matter what you use as long as you change your oil on time.

Any oil you change every 3k (preferably 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter) is going to be fine. I prefer Castrol High Mileage. Anything will be fine so long as you don't let oil change intervals go long and use a new filter every time.

Well Amsoil is the best, of course. Pick your flavor. :)
15w50 might be good in 800+ cubic inch diesel but not in a SHO. Amsoil is great if you're selling the stuff. Synthetics are superior of course. I go with the lowest weight availiable for the track car which is currently 0w20. 5w30 is a good thing to stick with for one reason, FLOW. I also look for the least amount of modifier spread cold to hot ie;5w30 5-30=25. 15-50=35, 0-20=0. (correct me) The modifiers will breakdown the oil faster. Flow is the key, The oil is cooling the internals. Thin oil will get in to the parts better. Think of oil as a coolant.

I currently use the 0w30. They have a new 5w40 out. AFAIK Amsoil uses very little if any modifiers to get the spread in viscosity ratings. That is usually for dino oils. You can also become a preferred buyer or if you use the stuff in any quantity if is well worthwhile to be a dealer just for your self. That is what I do as I sell very little to anyone else.

I agree and totally support you with that. Its complicated enough just keeping the old Ford running and get the best full synthetic oil that is availiable at the farm store. It keeps life simple.
