My '89 SHO has a K&N air filter mounted in the fender. Nice, but it's a pain to remove the air filter and clean it. But is this the best solution for air intake? Can anyone recommend a better configuration for the air filter?

I like the stock setup. Draws air from the hole at the fender and easy to change the element. Most of the other set ups have the filter drawing air from under the hood where it's significantly hotter or sticking out or at the stock fender hole.

The old sho shop can intake looked great, but I don't know if it performed any better than other setups. You can change the filter element and use a different elbow here or there, but I don't think the difference is worth messing with unless you have a higher flow issue with something like forced induction.

I second that. I bought one of the sho shop carbon fiber can intake setups for my car mostly because it looks cool under the hood and my car goes to shows regularly. Performance wise though the stock airbox with the silencer cone removed and a k&n panel filter is as good as any. It also keeps it way easier to maintain than any other intake setups.
