My "lifetime" guaranteed Alternator crapped out on my 90, and now I find out there is no guarantee after all.
I have been checking prices. The best I can do for a 90 Amp Gen 1 from BBB is $183.00. I look under the 95 listing, and I can get a 130 Amper from NSA for $137.00. Forty more amps for $46.00 less.
Wow!
Only problem is.... I read a thread (from Element913, 89-93 MTX to 94-95 MTX Alternator) that stated you have to change all kinds of brackets and the connecting wiring to place a Gen 2 alternator on a Gen 1 car. I got confused when they called the alternator a Gen 3 unit.
I am going to look at having my unit rebuilt locally, but that may, or may not, work out.
Anyone got some advice for a guy who just wants a low priced alternator on his 90 SHO?

I would rather have mine rebuilt than to buy one from and auto parts store. If you want the best for your money then go with a new one from the dealer. Usually the dealer is just a rip off but in the case of alts. they are the best.

I picked up a spare at a salvage yard of a low mileage 89 for $24 and had it rebuilt locally for $62.61 w/new bearing ect for a total of $86.61
