My son took the SHO to school this morning and as he pulled in the parking lot the EATC, and dash lights were flickering on and off. He shut the car off and went to start it right after he shut it off and nothing. So after school was let out he went out and it started right up. I just replaced the alt. and the battery is only a year old. Any thoughts?:thankyou:

It is most likely related to the batt , the batt wires , or the alt.

How much Volts you get at the batt @ idle?

I have no clue how many volts i am getting as I do not have a volt meter or really know how to check. I just pulled it into the garage and the battery light was on but dim, as soon as i gave it some gas it went away. The alt is like a week old.

If the battery is one year old =- and the alt is one week old that would mean the alt was replaced because it went bad and the car battery was ran down very low or even all the way dead which can cause your battery to prematurely fail. Yes - even if it is one year old. To check the battery voltage - you can use a multimeter set on the right volt range - test at the battery terminals with the car running.
Before you do that =- check the obvious, are the battery terminals clean? Are the battery cables on the terminals tightly?

Dont rule out the alt , many people have destroyed many alts within only weeks. Specialy if it comes from NAPA.

I second that - I too have been through alt. in a very short period of time. Just because it came from a parts store doesn't mean it will always work correctly.

Thanks for all the input. I actually got the alt. from RCM so I e-mailed them today and still waiting on a response.

I can do that but have read that it isn't really accurate since they dont test them underload. I bought a new battery lastnight but did not want to put it in there with the alt giving me problems. Should i try anyway and see if the battery light stays on?

If you are having alt problems - you're only defeating the issue by giving it a fresh battery. Have alt checked before you install the new battery.
