i have a 93 MTX. the battery will randomly go dead on it. its a brand new battery, and i even exchanged it once, problem is still there. it runs fine, no warning lights are on. after i jump start it its fine. but there is a bigger problem, which might be causeing the battery issue. after driving i when to turn the car off, took the key out and the radio and clock stayed on. tryed flipping the ignition back and forth a few times, but they just stayed on. is there something in the ignition that usually goes out on these cars? andbody have any ideas wht going on?

First thing, check the connections at the battery and make sure they're good and tight.....also check for corrosion on the terminals of the battery and the clamps that go on em. I found that to be the problem on a friend of mine's saturn when her car would do the same thing.

As for the radio and clock....it does sound like something ignition related. Does sound come from the speakers and all while this issue is occuring?

The ignition switch is your problem. It is not cutting power when the car should be turned off, which drains your battery. Replace the switch.

An improperly wired head unit can cause this problem also if it's wired to an "always hot" wire. I'd check the wiring of the head unit first.

Also, have you checked what the voltage is coming out of the alternator? If it's not charging properly that could cause some problems as well.

Edit: Not sure about the clock issue...mine stays on even when the key is off and out of the ignition but my radio does not operate. My clock is different than yours is though and I wired it in. Is your radio an aftermarket unit or Ford stock unit?

Possibly not quite true. (Sorry dragon queen... :salute: ) I have had a friend that did this and the radio would still shut off...both power wires (battery & accessory) need power for the radio to turn on that I have found...so even if they are switched, the radio should still turn off.

The accessory wire tells the radio to turn on...but the battery wires actually powers it. Just like an amp...if you ran power all the time to the accessory wire, the amp will not turn on if there isnt power from the battery wire.

the radio used to turn off fine, but now it stays on. i will try to take out the ignition this weekend, to soo if its just a loose wire or something simple like that. its an aftermarket radio, but its wired right

Well, the reason why I mentioned that is because I had my old Sony head unit wired wrong when I first installed it and it would stay on even when the key was turned off and pulled out. I eventually got the correct harness for it so it would work properly. And there were a couple of times when it did drain my battery.

Regardless, my suggestion doesn't sound like what his problem is given that his would turn off at one time but now won't.
