I know this is kind of a lame question. I try to be as mechanically inclined as I can, but I do get baffled. My battery light flickers when I start the car (no starting problems hot or cold), and stays off more than it stays on, and stays constant as I drive normally. When the car is idling, the battery light flickers (but stays more off than on). My battery (Exide 720) is brand new, and there are no tell-tale signs of the alternator going out (dimming lights, failing accessories, etc). What else could cause this. Maybe a bad belt or the starter wanting to quit? As far as I have had experience with, the only reason my battery light should be on is an alternator problem or a fusible link, but neither one seem to be the culprit.

Mine flickers too with a new alternator and battery. I found it to be a loose connection of the single wire (grey I think) going into the top of the alt. Check that and all other connections on the alt.
