battery light at idle

well after another exhaust problem, now i have another problem.. now at idle the battery light comes on and sometimes flickers.. im thinking its time for an alternator but then i push on the gas the battery light goes off so then i was thinking it might be the voltage regulator but i don't know.. i have to have this fixed within the next week and a half cuz the car has to go to Maine with me on the 29th. all help is welcome and thanks to all who help.

Check battery voltage with the car off, running at idle, and running above idle (where the light goes off).

If it is below 13.5v when at 1500 rpm and with a large electrical load it is time for a new one. But it may be the belt slipping too, or just a low idle speed.

it couldn't be a low idle speed cuz it idles normal and runs just fine but ill get it checked out i have a feeling that im going to have to replace the alternator.

I would put my money on a new alternator, but as stated, check your belts first.

i have found out what the problem is.... the alt is bad the battery died tonight on my way home and got stuck on the side of the road and had someone jump me and got it home.. plus i found out that the alt is also throwing sparks so its the alt... ill have a new one in a few days... thx again to all who replied..
