Thankfully I drive every day so battery drain isn't an issue that results in no starts. I do not think I would go to the extreme of disabling the RFA. If it was solely a race car, maybe. I think a trickle charger wired to the battery positive and an engine ground (not battery ground) would be my route of choice if it sat for long periods of time.
Because the battery management system senses the current that passes through the cable. If you go to the ground on the body or motor, it has to flow through the line that goes through the sensor. If you send the current straight into the battery, it makes the battery management system inaccurate and it will make the charging system wrong. Why connect trickle to engine ground and not the battery directly?
