My battery connectors are bad. I'd like to replace the whole battery cable but it sounds like alotta work. Am I gonna be ok just replacing the cables? I've looked around and most of the parts stores have replacements for a buck that have 2 bolts that screw down on the wire. Is there anywhere I can get some that might crimp on? Something more heavy duty? What should I then coat the connections in before wrapin' them with electrical tape? shrug

Those are heavy duty. If you use Loctite on the nuts of the crimp section they won't come loose...like mine did once. :D Damndest thing, I couldn't figure why sometimes the car wouldn't start. I was looking in all the wrong places too, starter connection, solenoid, battery itself, etc. laughing Ah well, I learned a good lesson...look at the simple repair spots first. wink

I saw connectors like that but they just seem like they're not very heavy duty. squint I guess I'll go back and see what I can find. Shouldn't I coat the connection with some kinda dielectric grease or Vasaline to prevent corosion? My current terminals become coroded within a couple weeks.

I'd like to hook my sub power wire to the battery side terminal. First, will it be far enough away from the intake manifold that the spark won't jump? It's about an inch or 2 between. Second, the side terminal hole likes to fill with all kinds of corosion. What can I put in there so it won't corode before I install the side terminal?.....

I checked it out I'm just sayin' the connections don't look very heavy duty. They seem like there's very little metal transferin the metal between the connections. But it does look very pretty. :D I just wish I could find a heavy duty connection like the factory one. Mabe one like the factory connection with a bolt to screw down into the wire.

What size did ya say the factory wire is??

On my 89 the wire is 2/0 I don't know that it's nearly that heavy on other cars. Believe me, those connectors are plenty good enough. It's been good enough for Toyota for over 10 years. A lot of other car makers have been moving to that spring clamp style lately too. Plus with my setup if my connectors corrode I can just replace them for a couple bucks by undoing to wingnuts.

The spring clamps are what is OEM on the GEN 3. Very light weight and an easy bolt on lug connection. You can get replacements at Wal-Mart for a couple of bucks.

As far as corrosion Vaseline works great but the problem is you battery is leaking.
