Hey guys, so I walked out to my SHO and the gear shift was essentially limp. I opened up the tunnel inside the car and found that below the pivot point, the plastic ball joint that connects the shifter to a horizontal rod is busted. Where do I find this part? How do I get the broken one off the rod? Keep in mind this is a cable linkage ('89), but the first portion of the shifter are these 2 rods that show from inside the car. The ball joint broke on the rod that transfers front to back motion of the shifter to the cables below.

Has anybody done this job? Let me know anything you can about this, especially parts availibility, as I must be at work in 10 hours. I appreciate anything you can offer.

Is it the cable with the white ends that I'm selling and promoting here in the classified section:

And FWIW, the cost of this cable and the other one from Ford is $197.72 and $262.93

I'm having a hard time actually picturing the part that you are talking about. I had my zip-tied together in a couple of places for quite awhile until I upgraded to the rod shifter. See if you can zip-tie it, but I recommend converting it!

Same Problem

I have an 91 with the cable shifter and I have been looking for that part for a couple weeks. It is a bushing about the size of a nickel and it is the !@#$est thing to find. It's discontinued by FORD and no one has it on the aftermarket that I have found yet.

SHONut Performance mentioned to try and make the part out of fuel line so I may go that route. I don't imagine SHO's are plentiful in the junkyards around here but I'll try that as well.

i had this exact same problem w/my 89, there's a 50 cent fix for this. Go to your local auto parts store and buy 5/8's heater hose(that or teh next smaller, i cant remember) cut a1/2 inch long piece off. Jam that piece ont he cable where the old socket was, and work the ball back inside the old socket hole under the rubber hose. Good like new till i sold it :thumb:

And where did you get that from? I know I've posted that many times!

I have a black suspension bushing from another car [I think a Mustang] and it works like a charm!
