Bad starter symptoms?

Just wondering what might be the problem when trying to start the car. Sometimes the car will make a winding or whirring sound with nothing happening to the engine. After the second or third try it will start. Othor times after a short trip when I try to start it back up it will turn over but it takes a second try.

Classic symptom of a starter about to go bad. Mine did that on my 91 a couple of times before it went out. I think what is happening is the starter motor spins and doesn't chatch the flywheel. Or something like that. I would not go many places before you get it fixed. Problem pay like 100 or so for the starter. I would say.

I recommend going with a remanufactured starter. Not rebuilt, but remanufactured. The remans are returned to original specs and should be as dependable as the OEM part. I just replaced the starter on my car and the Ultima brand was only $62. Here is the link ot the topic with pics where I replaced my starter.
