I have a harsh almost a metal on metal sound coming from the crank pulley area....i just finished up the FULL 60K and also a new lower timing crank pulley, it never had this sound until i put the new piece on...im thinking that one of my tensioners are going bad also cause the thicker of the two belts is on ALL pulleys correctly but it still looks to be off somewhere?????? like its not in a straight line while engine is rotating....could that be a bad tensioner???? and also the source of my sound????....engine runs GREAT and strong, sound almost goes away while giving it heavy throttle, any suggestions on what to look for/at would be great THANX to all!!!!! :thumb:

Are you sure that you torqued the crank bolt all the way? I know people who have had 'crank cancer' have reported that type of noise coming from that area - being the crank/sproket/crank pulley/timing pulley all being destroyed by not torquing the pulley down. Also, the belts when on correctly are all perfectly straight. I don't know about your tensioners, they don't usually just go bad. Are you sure that you put everything back the way it was before? A pic might help here.

sunny San Juan Bautista,
Did you check the vane to CPS sensor airgap? Vanes could be catching the CPS if you didn't check that gap to make sure it was within specs.

Checked

I think that the belt itself has issues, as its side was chewed up and it's still on there, thats why it loox crooked :bonk: .......as far as the crank bolt, i torqued that thing to 120ftlbs....i couldn't get any more out of it, thats a hard task even w/the wheels choked, 5th gear and a friend standing on the brakes!!!!
I checked all vane clearance w/the CPS, all are at a .03 gap as specified per SHOphoenix.com :)thumb:) Im gonna tear the bottom half apart again just to make sure.
Is it possible to put the bottom timing sprocket pulley on TOO far and it's rubbing somewhere????...**** i dont know??
THanx to all

I had posted before about my dilema when I forgot to torque the crank pulley! It was not good! Every time the engine would hit 5K, it would throw the accessory belts. Turned out that the Crank pulley wasn't tight. It proceeded to eat all 3 timing covers and the belt! All this in less than 50 miles! I will never forget to torque the bolt with red loctite again!
