I was wondering if it is possible for a MAF to go bad/or be bad??...I previously had a Ford unit 80mmMAF on my car, but during acceleration up around 3Krpm i would notice a miss, and the car would sorta  on itself...read codes got the 157-MAF signal low/is/was grounded...so i put my C&L 73mmMAF back on and my car runs great and loves the MAF regardless of what others think, my car loves it!! im curious if that could be the main problem, could there be sumpin else?? and what other areas of the engine would it affect if it was bad??...thanx :thumb:

The C&L MAF can cause the car to run lean, especially at lower RPMs, whereas the stock MAF will help the car to run better everywhere. Thats why I recommend sticking with the stock MAF or one specifically programmed to replace it. The C&L uses the stock electronics on a modified housing, which in effect fools the computer. This isn't really a good idea, and you can end up with dead spots in the powerband and/or a rich and lean condition at different throttle positions and loads.

I agree with Chris, stock sensors are calabrated to the size of the bore in the housing for that sensor.Ford used tamper proof screws with sometimes sealer in the tip to try and prevent removal from the housing.Bigger bore lets more air in but the PCM doesnt know it from looking a stock sensor which makes many driveability concerns.Switching sensors is a bad idea.
