I've asked for advice on this recently and received it, but I'd like to revisit it.

I'd like to know if anybody can clarify something for me. My fuel economy is still horrendous after new upstream O2s, fuel filter, and cleaning MAF. I realize that I may need a whole new MAF, but I was told after a somewhat recent free A/C diagnosis that the compressor clutch bearing was on the way out. This was back in January. I Had an unrelated A/C line leak addressed about 3 months ago, then I began experiencing the A/C cutting out, which I attributed to the shim/gap issue. However, the A/C hasn't been cutting out recently (last 2 weeks) and it hasn't been deshimmed.
SO, I guess my question would be, is it possible that a slight increase in resistance in the compressor could cause fuel economy to drop? I'm still getting around 14 mpg. I'm well aware of the price difference between a new MAF and a new compressor (even if just for trying to hunt down the pulley/bearing per the link above), and since exhaust still stinks like unburned gas, the MAF is more likely the culprit.
I've gone far enough now (changing O2s was bad enough!) and spent enough $$ that I want to defer to the experts before anything else. What about the IAC and injectors?
The time is not far off when anybody seen driving one of these cars can be assumed to either be very mechanically inclined or closely related/acquainted with someone who is. After reading the thread above about the bearings, it seems like Ford's doing EVERY LITTLE THING to get these cars to "go away". The ***** . . .
