can the backglass (or rear window) be replaced on a genII with an LX or other Taurus SLO from the same years or does it have to be an SHO window?

are you going to try and remove one from a junkyard, or buy new glass?

I need a new rear window, and don't really know what to do. Cost of the glass with installation up here is something like $1400...

NOTE: SHO and regular Taurus are the same. the Sable may be the same, but check this out if you find a Sable in the salvage yard. A new rear glass for Gen I and II, with the defroster, is about $650 U.S. plus instalation. The plastic molding pieces are available new at a few of the parts web sites. I think I remember seeing it on the Rock Auto web site, but am not sure.

well ive done it on other cars, its a pretty simple job you just have to be careful and take your time or your window will crack you can get a donor car, this is probably the cheapest, although it can be hard transporting the glass. there actually is a tool that removes windows that has a sharp blade that slides between the car and window to cut the adhesive material off. you could easily do it yourself, although i dont know much about the plastic trim on the edge... i did it on an older car so it was a screw in chrome piece that was around the edge of the window.

the only thing thats hard is that you need patience or else youll find yourself needing a new window again...

1st gen rear glass is about $200 installed. I had one put in last year by Safelight.
