I just assumed that my valve covers were leaking because i had bad smoke comming from the back of the motor.. so i changed. them put it all back together and i still have SMOKE im so confused because since its all back together i can't tell where its comming from but i swear i can hear something boiling back there and i just see smoke.. if i look under that car it looks as if something is getting down to the y-pipe and being burnt.. the more i rev the car tha more that comes out.. what beside my valve cover gaskets could the oil or whatever it is be comming from back that way.. Im so confused because this is my first sho taurus..

I'm just trying to figure out if i should keep this car and get the tranny yanked out and put in another on i have found that the motor seems doesnt have any problem but the tranny is fried.. or just go ahead and fix this.. if anyone has any idea please help before i take this to a shop and get charged out the :oogle: for something i might not even fix

Are you sure you didn't roll the new gasket when you installed it? Happened to me when I changed gasket. I bought a small telescoping mirror (like they use at the dentist almost) so I could check the length of the gasket after I put it on a second time just to make sure it hadn't rolled off the valve cover. You may also be able to spot what exactly is leaking too if it's not the VC gasket.

Check your rear cam seal.

Run your fingers under the cam position sensor and its housing. If they come back oily, the seal behind the sensor is leaking.

Steve, if im not mistaken, when the rear cam seal(CID) leaks, it leaks on to the P/S pump, and down onto the subframe... granted some could get to the cat...

but i think the problem lies with the (rolled) Valve cover.

However, i'd be willing to bet that a Cam seal could have been causing some of the previous smoke as well.

I could almost swear that I've read some where, that oil leaking onto the y-pipe or cat is the rear main seal. . . . . might be mistaken. Good to check though. Good luck! :thumb:

I had a very similar problem with oil leaking on to my y pipe and smoking, it turned out to be a cam seal.

I just went through that on mine, First somebody used rtv on the rear valve cover, so I had to scrape all that clean and replace em. Then I ended up replacing my rear cam seal, but the cause was a front crank seal, dripping right down on the front cat causing a nice smoke screen.

Ah, I see! How bad was the leak? A steady stream, or just drips?
