Hey SHO fellows,
This thread is absolutely LONG past due but definitely a very much deserved thread for Mr. Awesome Sam aka SHOspazz92. I wanted to wait until a certain milestone has been achieved, and the pictures will be posted below. It is in regarding the light titanium '89 SHO that I bought from him back in February. Now, before I continue on with my rambling, I love it!! THANK YOU Sam and Ashley too! Now, because this is long past due, I am going to make this a long one too.
(Side note: Also, thank you to the original owner George, he deserve a lot of credit, for keeping this '89 as nice as it is today. Talk about shiny original paint, untorn interior, cold a/c, engine that runs perfectly, smooth shifting transaxle, etc etc! He obviously must have loved it dearly and did not abuse it at all!)
A little bit about myself:
I have been on this website, www.SHOForum.com, since its beginning a long time ago when it first launched. I had been on some SHO lists like SHO Times, Topic, etc. who all the older members would know about. I had a different screen name then on here, but because the website went through some changes, I lost it for some reason. I had to re-register under NORMAN that I use now. I've never been much of a poster, but I definitely have been a serious lurker over the years. I remember I did deal with some of the more respected SHO owners like John H, Jim (last name?), etc. through these older lists. Great people, but anyway..
I have had about 10 SHOs give or take a couple over the years since mid 1990's. My very first SHO was a MINT black '89 that I bought in '97, I think. It was a local purchase (newspaper AD), but I had a couple friends locally who drove SHOs. I had an idea what they were like, and how the engine was Yamaha. I was too young in '89 to buy one brand new. I found that black '89 with about 60k on the odometer, maybe closer to 70k, for about 6k back then in mid-late 90's. It turned out to be a beautiful SHO that I absolutely fell into love with. I bought it off of a guy who had it for only 2 years. He bought it from an original owner who didn't drive it at all from '89 until around '95. It was stored in a climate controlled storage, so it had less than 5k miles around '95 when this second owner got it. It was MINT, let me repeat, extra MINT!!
So, the point is, I know SHOs really well, and I know what a mint '89 should be like! This second owner had put on all highway mileage over the short time he had it. It was still as brand new, it really was. I still have a copy of the original title some where that showed 5k mi. in '97. I sold it after a couple of years, and I wasn't happy about it. Due to some circumstances then, I had to. I did buy a few others over the years, but nothing excited me as much as that first '89 did. A black on black '93 did excite me a little bit, but it spun a rod bearing 2 weeks after I bought it from Atlanta, GA off of Topic SHO list. I was disappointed, but replaced the engine anyway. I went through a bunch of Gen 1 and Gen 2 SHOs over the years, but I would always miss that first one.
The SHO I had before this light titanium I got from Sam, I still have, it's an '89 also. It's just plain ugly in black primer with no interior, and I paid $600 for it 6-7 years ago. I put in a low mileage 3.2L, and it has never failed me not once. Awesome dependable car, but I would always miss owning a "mint '89". I still drove that ugly thing daily for work even though I bought a brand new '03 Cobra in late '04. I also bought a '99 Cobra in '01 before I traded it in for that '03. I had the '03 until a couple of years ago when I sold it with only 5k on the odometer. Now, because I sold the Terminator, I was starting to look for a mint '89 to buy. An '89 that was in a lot nicer shape than the '89 that I had been driving for years as a work car. My requirements were that it had to have original paint, untorn interior, cold a/c, and all the maintenance records, all which that my old '89 didn't have.
I decided to give this website another chance, BUT to do my home work this time around. I came across Sam's light titanium '89 for sale thread. I was amazed to see that no body has snagged it up after 6 months. It looked pretty darn good to me in the pictures, or at least it did compared to my '89 I had (and still have).
I was like, what the heck, and contacted Sam via a PM. It was more an impulsive buy because I already had multiple vehicles. He answered promptly, and then I began asking what must have been 100's of questions. he answered THEM ALL promptly! I was like, wow, and then I dug a little bit into his history on here to double check on his reputation. I was impressed with what I saw. I even went as far as to do some home work on the original owner of this '89 Sam bought from just to be sure. Again, I came away even more so impressed. No kidding, but this '89 had been garaged for 20 plus years by this original owner George. Also, it did have all the receipts from day one. The biggest downside was its mileage at 196k. No, I wasn't swayed by that, considering I know SHOs well and work on them as well if necessary. I also have all the parts you would ever need including but not limited to spare engines and transaxles. I wasn't worried about the mileage. I even told Sam all I wanted was to get that thing home, and if it broke, I'd pull my low mileage 3.2L drivetrain out of my other '89. He assured me it won't even be necessary, that his '89 runs PERFECTLY. He even capitalized that word in his thread.
I then came to a decision to actually drive up from Florida the first weekend of this past February. I decided I needed to get it before somebody finally realized this '89 is indeed what it was. I was going to buy this '89 no matter what, and hope it would at least make it home. Sam assured and reassured it was exactly as described that it would make it home but also last for quite a while as well. I believed, and came. Boy, am I glad I believed and came. As soon as I got there in his driveway, and saw the rear end of this '89 in his SHO as I walked up to his garage, I was already 100% sold. I was ready to plunk down the cash right then, but my friend was saying to be a little bit patient to test drive it first, ha. I just knew based on my conversations with Awesome Sam, and so of course I bought it after our little ride to the gas station.
He, and Ashley are of some quality people that this website should be proud to have as members. This is making no mistakes about that for sure! They were very accommodating, and extremely nice. I did feel bad that Sam didn't get what he wanted for it, and also at the same time amazed how come all the other more respected members from here who didn't snag it up already. I didn't care anyway because I was happy that no body picked it up. It is a fine piece of an '89 that I was happy to own! It was up for sale over 6 months, and I was SURPRISED about that as soon as I laid my eyes on it for sure! Mileage, who cares, because SDPatt has a 400k plus SHO. Not to mention, if it wouldn't last as long, I have spares no problem.
After the transaction was finalized in his house, I and my significant other with my new to me '89 SHO, and my friend with his Lincoln LS hit the road for the trip back down home to Florida. The trip went awesome, and without not even one glitch! The '89 performed beautifully on the trip back down home to FL, and although it isn't the same sunroof-less black '89 (Toolman didn't have his for sale at the time..) that I had for my first SHO, it did remind me a lot of that very first SHO I had. It drove almost as beautifully, and the interior with its half leather and cloth is almost as mint. Heck, the cold A/C still blows cold even today in Florida's 100 degree summer days! NO JOKE!
I think I've rambled way too long on here, but hey, Sam deserve a such long thread. He never asked me to post a thread, or anything as such. I promised I would post a thread, but I never did up to now. Reason? Well, I wanted to wait until I hit the 200k mile mark on this SHO, and of course this SHO did no problem. It now has almost 201k, and it still runs great. A/C still blows cold, the original paint still shine, and the interior is 10 times better than my other '89. I'm HAPPY!!!!
THANK YOU SAM AND ASHLEY!

A couple pictures for now, but I will definitely add more later:
