awd and different tires

Had a flat on 2011 sho on cross country trip. Had for Goodyear eagles on car since new. All repair shop could get were general g-max as-03 245/45zr20xl. Friends are saying I have to have all same brand tires and same size. Does it really matter as long as sizes are same. We are talking a lot of money,for tires. Then again I don't want damage to running gear.What is the real world opinion?

In any awd application make sure:
-The tires are the same exact size
-Speed rating and load index are appropriate for the car
-The tread depths are no different than at most 3/32 of an inch.

Follow those simple rules and you are good to go!

You have the Performance Package? You would be mixing all-season and summer tires if you don't do all 4 at a time. Not a good idea on a high performance car AND definitely not one with AWD. You are in Idaho, where you would actually use the AWD quite a bit, I assume. See if they can order a Goodyear Eagle tire for you (RS-A?) and use that as a replacement. Tirerack, Discount Tire, etc could ship one to your shop. If you drive conservatively and stay away from extreme road conditions, you could get away with it for a bit.

Also, put a feeler out on http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com to see if a member would be willing to part with their Goodyear OEM tire(s).
