You'd better have over 300k miles to be ready for ATX #5. That's rediculous.

Where are you having these rebuilt? Or are you abusing them?

My rebuild (complete with Transgo) has lasted a long, long time. I flush (not drain and fill) the ATF every year. Cost $80, benefits are unmeasureable (is that a word?).

Are these places flushing the ATX coolers? There is a thermostatic valve that will remain closed unless the fluid is hot enough to open it. FWIW I've never seen my ATX temp go above 220 although I've never tracked the car, usually it stays around 180. I have removed my bypass valve and am only running the front mount cooler (no radiator cooler).

Ford was rebuilding them until the last one...
The last one was built by a performance shop that installed all the latest upgrades...

The SHO now has 107k miles.....

Normally after a car is driven in to the shop by the customer that drove 20 miles to get here, the transmission fluid is of tempature. Also, most flushing machines are equipped with a pressure monitor, that once below a certian level will kick off the flush process. But to answer the question. Yes, we flush the cooler too.
