Hi,

Is everyone using Motorcraft MERCON LV2 to change their auto tranny fluid or are there any other suggestions ??

No reports on whether anyone is using Redline D6 either, it runs a bit thicker than Motorcraft. Amsoil works well, also a bit thicker. Both have lower pour points than Motorcraft, important only if you live in a COLD climate. Royal Purple does not make an LV compatible fluid that I know of.

I missed the LV2 part. I only use Mercon LV. It is so cheap I cycle 5 out and 5 in (7 last time) every 3k miles or 6 months (with my oil change) whichever comes first.

Is the LV2 for Canada for the colder temps ? I myself am thinking about the Redline D6,maybe going all Redline fluids for my car. Ptu has , Rdu will have in the spring , so maybe tranny should too. Like shodded said haven’t heard anyone using that yet. Like to hear more first.

What IS LV2? I have heard of ULV, but never LV2. Post a pic if you got one.

The "2" isn't for LV2 it is a footnote in the manual designating use Mercon LV for the automatic transmission fluid....... US and Canadian Versions of Mercon LV are the same, they just have a different item number.

What year is your car? And why do you change it every other oil change? Do you drive the car often? My book says 150k miles to change the tranny fluid so I'm just curious. My SHO is my every day car so I drive it at least 50 miles a day, every day.

Because it is so dirt cheap and easy to change while you are under the car. Your manual also says the PTU fluid is lifetime.

It is piece of mind for me in the SHO. The 6f-55 in our cars create a lot of heat. That in turns breaks down the fluid. If you keep the fluid clean and healthy your transmission will stay happier longer.

I do the 5 out and 5 in along with the oil in my SHO every 3k miles or six months whichever comes first. In my Focus ST, I change the gearbox oil every 15k miles.

Well I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to explain to me. I will do everything to keep my baby going as long as I can and I already know the prior owner of my car - well it was a leased company vehicle - so it was obviously not taken care of worth shizz, so I am going out of my way more than I would have to make sure I can bring her back to the health she deserves. Though I actually would even if the car wasn't previously taken care of well, lol. Thanks, again. Also, I see it says your from Arizona so does that mean you are like in weather like Wisconsin? I am wondering if the cold changes what my maintenance schedule should be like - which I already suspect it does.

It depends. I have a full bolt on SHO on a very hot E30 tune. I beat the snot out of my SHO everytime I get behind the wheel (she isn't my daily and sees less then 50 miles a weeks most cases). When I do drive her she gets leaned on hard. Street light Gran Prix, solo street pulls, dyno pulls, the track duty, ect.. It is very rare I drive her like a daily. That being said my maintenance is completely extreme because of how I treat her, and because of the extreme heat (110+ for 4 months straight) here in AZ.

You have the completely opposite climate. You are moderate in the summer and extremely cold in the winter. Also, I doubt you are half as rough with yours as well. However the extreme cold can do funny things to the car as well. Personally if I were you, I would run Castrol Edge with a Motorcraft filter. I would change it every 4k miles along with doing a 5 out and 5 in trans fluid swap. This will keep everything happen and your SHO on the road longer.

My car is a 17 with 16000 and I do my fluid changes just for the best protection I can do for the car. Just like SM105K said it’s easy and your under there already. ( won’t lie here I took his advice and started doin this ) changed the PTU to Redline light shock proof as well. RDU will get done in the spring ( April) she gets put away for these N.Y. Winters. I drive mine daily as long as no rain. I drive it hard and soft. It’s hard to be soft with my new AJPTURBO Tune HAHA !!!
