Smartstart here. I can use my iPhone with limitless range or the remote. FYI using the phone app is slower and adds a few seconds to a simple start.

I use the Ford starter. Was around $500 installed. Works well. Only thing is with the push button start on the car, I remote start it and then when I open a door or the trunk, the car dies. I then restart. I'm told this is so the car can adjust to the settings I have set on the remote I use. A small inconvenience to get into a warm (or cool) car

I used the Viper Avital with my Smartstart and I also had it installed.
I use the Ford starter. Was around $500 installed. Works well. Only thing is with the push button start on the car, I remote start it and then when I open a door or the trunk, the car dies. I installed the Ford unit myself. It actually has to die so that someone can't just jump in and drive away. Since we have no physical key there is nothing to prevent someone from running off with it, so they deactivate it when any door, trunk, or hood is opened....(there is a key buried that is activated by the starter....when it dies the key is de-activated and the car looks for an available key in the normal fashion) It's my understanding that the Viper has a programmed workaround that kills the car after 45 seconds if no key is present.

That's a logical explanation. You get what you pay for eh?
Viper or Avital? What model? And how does it work with the keyless go?

Viper and Avital are products of Directed Electronics. I used the Avital 4103
I have a buried remote key inside the car. Remote start the car using the iPhone app or the Avital remote. Open the car via the keypad, keypad with keyless remote on person or the Avital remote. Upon entering the started car you must press the brake within 45sec otherwise it shuts down. It also must see a working remote otherwise it will shut the engine down. The embedded key has the battery removed so it doesn't bypass this.
The iPhone app (not sure on other smartphones) is having network issues according to DT. At this point its very very unreliable and DT never responds to support questions. ********* eye for them here.

I know very well about DEI products. Just wanted to know if you used a Viper or Avital as a "Viper Avital" is not a product just two brand names. I was actually one of the Viper Tracklink customers that Viper told to F off once the service was no longer profitiable for them and they chose to end the service. IT was actually really cool you could login online and track your car, arm it, start it, disarm it, whatever. One day it just stopped working and I was out 1500 dollars worth of equipment. Also the fact you have a key hidden in the car scares me. Most shops tell you thats the only way that it can be done, but those places are either lazy or inexperienced. You need to use whats called a bypass module so you can keep your key and the alarm will be much more secure as you dont have a key in the car.
Hey "darreli" .... I took the Compustar pro 900 out of my old car that i traded in for the show and call to see if i can put it in the sho and they said no and to use the ford oem starter. So my question is are you having any issues with your starter. The old starter is only 2 months old.
a bypass module that does not utilize a key does not exist for our smart key equipped vehicles. The Ford system also requires an additional key to be used and is provided when you purchase the system from the dealer. I have searched extensively for such a unit. Directed Electronics not Fortin, the two top manufacturers of bypass modules do not make one and all require the use of an additional key without the battery installed.
