We have a very small NM SHO Club (about 4 members currently) and a new post on our board was made by a local SHO owner having these ATX problems:

I am the proud owner of a 1993 Taurus SHO. The car is in near perfect condition inside and out, bone stock, with 156,000 miles on the odometer. It has been in the family since 1995 and has been meticulously maintained since. I consider it to be a great vehicle and I intend to keep it in the family for many years to come. I am currently having a problem with the automatic transmission that I hope is not serious. 75% of the time it shifts perfectly, as smooth as glass. But sometimes through light to moderate acceleration it seems as though it cannot decide to shift into 2nd gear. It kinda shifts and unshifts rapidly for a few seconds before it finally shifts into 2nd. The result is a very obnoxious chattering sensation that is just not right. This has been a problem for a few years now but it seems to be getting worse. Also under full acceleration it almost refuses to shift into 2nd then all of a sudden it slams in, I rarely fully accelerate for this reason. In almost all other situations the tranny shifts as if it were new. Can someone please help me? Thank You very much!
I've invited him here to search, and I'm not by any means an ATX expert (i'm lucky to have a 92), so any help would be appriciated greatly!

Lance,
This might be a large undertaking, but you might wanna check our calendar down here at the Lone Star Club and bring those 4 cars with their owners down here to Tx for some fun! Heck we had some guys from Iowa come last time!

We have a blast, and heck we always choose a historic location to make a mini vacation as well!

From the sounds of it, a rebuild is likely in order. Take it from an owner of a 93, don't mess around with a half butt job and I have a writeup if he needs it on how to rebuild it indestructable! Most any tranny guy should be able to follow it...it goes over all the shortcomings of the AXOD and how to beef them up to indestructable levels!

Maybe see you down here sometime!

Thats a great idea!.. I'd love to do that, but we often have a hard time just meeting monthly due to one memeber being an the Air Force reservist, and me being 60 miles north of the others.

Keep me on a buddy list or something and PM me next time you plan something. I'd be into going to TX and dragging a few members with me.

Lance,
April 17th in Austin...we usually have hotel arrangements and so forth in the LSSHOC part of shoforum.com.

I have joined up with nmshoclub.com and applied to be in your yahoo group so that maybe we can get something done together with our 2 neighboring states! Especially since I live in Midland which isn't TOO far from you guys and would be a blast to come to the ALB/SF area again!

See if you can get any bites there in the NM area....

Also..what is your AOL IM handle?

I'll do my best, and if you ever need a place to stay in either Albuquerque or Santa Fe, I'm the Room Director for La Fonda Hotel and have contacts in Albuquerque and of course our own hotel.

I don't really use AOL, so it's best to PM here, post on the nmshoclub, or simply e-mail me.

The family '93 ATX has done that for as long as I can remember. It doesn't have any problems shifting under full acceleration though... Our tranny guy (redid another '93 for us and DAMN!) said there isn't really anything that can be done short of a rebuild. He told us to drive it (not abuse it nono ) until it quit. That was 3 years ago. We are going to try a D4U1 when we can get a hold of one.
