The center console is held in by several push clips and bolts.

If I remember correctly, you need to empty the center console and remove the foam pad at the bottom and remove several small bolts in there. Then remove the rubber insert in the cup holder area - and there is one bolt in there.

After those are all removed, simply pull up on the center console and it will 'pop' out. Be careful with the storage compartment area...as the area by the large lid (where your arm goes) pops up, but the portion with the storage compartment/ashtray also has to pull out and away from the dash.

and if the shift cable actually has to be replaced, you will find that a challenge as well - the cable is anchored to the floor pan of the car under the location where the heater duct comes out for the driver's side. so, you need to remove that section of the heater duct to remove that fastener.

...and after having recently been in that area to do my heater core/blend door, it is a royal PITA!
