I tried researching but all the threads on them were gone or something?

Anyway, whats involved? Is it harder than a 3.2 swap into an mtx? Do you have to change the ypipe and mounts? Do you need all the 3.0 accesories?

I'm lost and kicking ideas around lol

Yeah, I've found lots of threads I have used for reference are gone now. Lots more involved. Need pretty much a 3.0 MTX donor car. Y pipe, subframe, MTX acc brackets and motor mounts, wiring harness or harness mods to the ATX one, Clutch/brake pedal assembly, ect...the list goes on...

Not terribly hard, lots of people have done it, including myself.

Thanks for the info, I'll ask more questions if I ever end up actually going through with it

i did this swap myself... nothing you cant do over the weekend... any major questions just ask me and ill do what i can to help out.
by the way the atx to mtx swap to me for whatever reasons feels stronger then my 3.2 swap i did to the 92.
one guy mentioned because the atx computer is programmed for the 3.2 already which makes sense but the computers learn reguardless and adjust for anything bigger up to 300 hp from what i hear.

I've been eyeballing this myself lately. Probably more work than I want to take on, but there's lots of ATX cars available that are in better shape and not as beat up. Hmmm...

Does anyone have any info on the neutral safety clutch switch and the reverse lights hook up? In the process of ditching the ATX.

for the netural switch you need to tap it into the auto shift box.. dont recall what its called for sure and if i had a picture of one apart i could point out what needed to be solder where.
as for mine tho i just ran a jumper for the netural safty switch, didnt wanna hook it up.

the reverse switch you just tap the wires to the atx reverse.. yet again i need pics to be able to point it out.

if the search works you should find pics of this.

Thanks, I've seen that. So did you reassemble the ranger sensor and leave it somewhere? What did you do about the EGR setup?

The document wasnt done by me. But ive done the swap , and I ditched the EGR , but you will have a check engine light on , if you use the 3.2 harness/ECU. Theres no other way around it. I removed the light back then.

Were there any other codes besides the EGR? I know the o/d light will be flashing. The reason why I want to hook up the EGR is because I've had the DPFE sensor go bad on me before and the car ran like ****. I've noticed that the boss is there on the rear MTX exhaust manifold and I plan on utilizing it by drilling 3 holes and tapping 2 of them out, not hard. Appreciate the input as it seems all the useful threads on this subject are now gone!

You should also get some transmission codes (hey the AT tranny is not there anymore...) that should trigger the CEL anyway , dont bother.

Yeah, there'll be a ton of codes related to lack of response from the transmission. There's not much to be done about that. You can put a piece of tape over the CEL, but otherwise it's going to be on all the time.

It won't affect engine operation, as far as I've been able to tell, anyway.

I just ignore the pretty flashing lights. ;)

Just an update, I finally drove my ATX to MTX conversion. I did drill and tap the holes necessary for the EGR to function with the 3.0 manifold, so yes...my mtx has EGR. The only codes that spit out during the drive were...

621 Shift solenoid #1 circuit failure
622 Shift solenoid #2 circuit failure
641 Shift solenoid #3 circuit failure
637 Transmission oil temperature sensor voltage above Self-Test maximum
652 Torque Converter Clutch solenoid circuit failure
624 EPC solenoid or driver failure
659 High vehicle speed in park indicated
and 511 EPROM failure, because of my LPM.
The check engine light does not illuminate for those codes, so removing the lamp is unnecessary. The O/D off light does blink, however.

I looked over your write up but I chose to stay with as many ATX parts as possible, including all the accessory drive and wiring harness. From the top the engine looks as it did before right down to the air box hose and the check engine light DOES NOT turn on due to the missing transmission. Looking at the other ATX swaps, folks have chosen to eliminate the EGR which is why the MIL indicator turns on. So far...so good. I plan on disassembling the AX4S to see what I grenaded as well.

FWIW I opted to keep the 3.2 harnesses and computer (thanks Shoaz), which I found to be pretty painless. With the 3.2 computer, you have to short out a trace inside the ATX shifter switch so that the computer thinks it's in Drive all the time to bypass the 4K rev limiter in park.

One interesting side effect to this is that I can no longer run the KOER codes since the computer thinks the car is in drive while the test is running. I immediately get a warning flash and then no further flashes. KOEO works fine though.
