ok .....this will take some skill but if you do it this way they will not break for a long time. firsty, you will need to cleanly cut away at the lower rubber portion of the shifter. by doing this you will have access to the broken wires. Now, hold your shifter handle sidways so your broken wires are laying flat down and you can see them. I am assuming that the wires are so short that there is no wire to solder to, so if this is the case, take a marker and mark where the wires are within the plastic. i know its hard to see but you should be able to make out roughly where they go. by doing this you won't cut into them. take a rotory tool with a long thin bit and grind away the plastic about 1/2 inch up. remove as much of that plastic stuff as possible so that you will be able to lift up on those tiny wires and strip their insulation. the more plastic you remove the easier it will be to work on the wires. when you solder the existing wires to the thinker wires make sure that the solder joint is within the are that you ground out with your dremel. after you are happy with your soldering take a glue gun and glue in over top of the soldering job. by doing this you will protect the wires for moving and you now have thicker wires to deal with down below. thicker wires will not break so easily.
Now replace those crappy factory wires that sit below the console with somewhat thicker wires. to do this simply cut the connector off 1/2 inch above the harness, so that you can strip the insulation off and solder the thinker wire to the thin one. Solder the two together and again, use a glue gun to cover and strengthen the soldering job. remember that the weakest point on that connector is the thin wire that enters the harness. by gluing that entire area you are restricting it from bending a million times. just like they do to keep the end of head phone jacks from breaking. hope this helps its very easy but sounds hard. i did it three years ago and have had no problems since.
