Anyone else's ATX shake like crazy on a hard up-shift? When I hit my 1-2 just right it feels like the car is going over the "wake up strips" on the side of the road for about 1.5 seconds. The car literally vibrates violently for a while until it finally engages 2nd fully.

I'm giving serious thought to buying some subframe bushings and don't know if it's possible that maybe the engine is just shaking around from loose OE ones or not.

I really don't care if the tranny dies since it still has plenty of warranty on it but I would of course hope it's still in good shape because of the hassle renting a car and all that.

Well it could be those, but it's most likely your motor mounts. I get that on the 1-2 shift and my front motor mount is gone (after 4000 miles!). frown

Hmm... the front was replaced a couple months ago. I gave a quick look when I had the left wheel off and that mount looked ok.. haven't seen the back mount though.

Well it won't necesarily look bad unless you either A. Jack up the engine and see if it's seperating or B. have someone hold the foot down on the brake and give it a little gas while in drive. This should clear things up. Just be careful on the second method. :)

Well every SHO I have ever driven that did that had bad motor mounts or subframe bushings. In your case it may just be a shudder in the trans, which is worse. frown

Completely rebuilt 2.5 years ago... I haven't really flogged the trans in a WHILE because of various drivability problems which have prevented me from enjoying the car until now.

I guess the trans just shifts hard and this is what I should expect... I will be putting SS brake lines on and doing the fluid in the next month so I'll look then when the car's up on jack stands and the wheels are off.

Thanks, but no thanks. Driving to me means shifting for myself. I have owned only one car with an automatic - a crappy Mustang II with the 302 V8 (rated at an amazing 139hp). That was because my father required that I buy the automatic (we each paid half) because I would have too many problems with the clutch. After two transmision failures in 100,000 miles, I couldn't afford the automatic. I've been through several clutches on my SHO, but still on the original transmission after 256,700 miles. Knocking on wood.
