Ok 5,000 miles ago the tranny was rebuilt and put in by a ford dealership in Toledo now I am in dayton ohio for business. Got down to dayton just fine and then got to my hotel. Backed out of my parking spot and put in drive and went to the exit to the road. Stopped and then went to hit the gas to go onto the road well that didn't happen got out into the lane and the engine just revved. Well from what i can tell the linkage works for the shifter to the tranny. Just that in park the car moves it doesn't lock or anything and in gears the car revs but doesn't go anywhere. Any idea of what is going on like a solenoid or something. Cause this is ******* me off. Thanks SHO Fanatics for your help.

Sounds like your linkage. Can't say I have heard of park not working. Your car is staying in gear.

Try running the codes. If it's a Ford rebuilt, it's covered under their nationwide 3/36, make them worry about it.

no car has no gear if you put it in park you can push it foreward and backward and if you have it in drive the same thing. The car is parked right now with the e-brake on.

Did you visually check the linkage at the switch on the trans? The cable may have come loose.

Try this... Get back in the car, start it and put it in gear. Does the speedo move?

If so, then you've broken an axle, or it's slipped out of position and is disengaged.

Or you broke an axle, or even better. One jumped out because it was not in correctly. I am in Cincinnati, let me know if I can help.

yup the speedo moved. that makes sense to me. Broken axle i doubt it cause it happened from a stop to a start of about 2 mph in 3 feet of movement then it happended. But they want to order a new tranny. but it is under warranty from what i hear but if they don't have to get a new tranny that would be great. They said the planetary gear was bad they think. The only thing that sucks is that Thanksgiving is around the corner and now i won't have my car for two weeks again. any clues.
