Searched a long time for a clean 94-95 MTX SHO (about 6 months)(too rare in the land of salt+ snow) and against my better judgement I found an immaculate 94 ATX with only 74K on it and stupidly bought it without being able to put it through it's paces To my horror, I'm slowly finding out that it seems the only solution is that it's simpler to switch tranny's or engines rather than beef it up. I've allways had an MTX. so if someone could answer if this is normal , I'd seriously appreciate it.
#1 O.D. switch doesn't work or light up.
#2 When I shift manually from any gear at any speed I may as well be holding a bannana on novacaine
#3 Shift manually from 1'st to 2'nd @ 6500 RPM, I t hits the rev limiter every time. (What a waste of torque)
#4 Has anyone lowered the drive ratio?
The tranny doesn't seem to slip at all except when changing gears . There's got to be some fix out there to make it chirp when she shifts at least half as good as an MTX.
Incredibly appreciative of any help anyone can offer or the dog sled has to come back out.

although i don't own an ATX.... I heard one of teds LPM's drastically increase the firmness in shifts in the ATX's and i've heard they're so firm and fast shifts that they chirp.

#1 Probably what has happened here is that the wires in the shift handle are pinched or broken. You can pull the horseshoe retainer clip from the front of the shifter and get the assembly upart. I wouldn't, though, unless you have the parts available to fix it. The light comes on when the OD is off.
#2 & #3 The TedB LPM will improve the shifting of the trans. (Worked fine for me)
#4 Don't know about this, but I would love to find out. wink

Thanks Billh,
Call me stupid , but could you please tell me what a TedB LPM is? Thanks for the shifter tip. by the way , about the drive ratio, I've heard of someone that put in the planetary gear from a regular Taurus, then had to re-install the original back again because the computer couldn't figure out what the tranny was doing. Got to give the guy credit for trying something that should logically work , but he gave up before trying the easiest solution of kidnapping a Yamaha software engineer from Japan. Come to think, has anyone out there ever try to link directly with Yamaha?
Amazing! If there's any SHO lover out there who's fluent in Japanese, why don't you try to connect with someone at the factory who was involved in the Formula 1 program that could steer us barbarians onto some REALLY interesting specs? Imagine all the homework allready done to to completly unleash the potential of our engines.
Just a thought.
Gary.

The TedB LPM is a chip that slips into the diagnostic port on your computer. I don't know if it takes over entirely, or just supplements the programming of your computer, but if you want, it can be programmed to modify the shift points and make your transmission shift a lot better. If you install a bigger MAF, it can also be programmed to correct the fuel mixture (80MM MAF's make the car run lean without some correction of the Air/Fuel ratio)It also removes some of the built in Ford restrictions, 140MPH speed limit, 7000RPM rev limiter, etc. In any case, it is well worth the $200.00 to get one.
I can tell you a real good story about the first '68 Torino 428CJ car that was delivered to the local Ford dealership here. Email me privately [email protected] (It's off the topic of this group and the SHO guys probably aren't interested in ancient history)
