I'm still curious and still looking for the right sho. I don't want a 1/4 sedan...just a fun kinda sleeper, different vehicle. I do work on cars for a living albeit just starting out and still attending school for my career. I love working on cars and I heard this was an enthusiast's car. If I find the right one...thing is I'm scared to commit on buying a SHO cuz I'm scared of the costs and frustrations of finding parts. I thinik these cars are amazing and would like to be safe when buying one...that's why I'm leaning towards the ATX because if I'm correct...AX4N parts are everywhere and still being produced in case problems arise. The MTX is a scary thought because of the synchros being discontinued. These are gnarly cars...why doesn't ford make the parts we want? What can we do? Thanks guys!

The ATX is good if you want a daily driver and go from point A to point B. There are less mods for the ATX so keep that in mind. A lot of people who have ATX's tend to just do a few bolt-ons and cal lit a day.

The MTX can still be a daily driver and is still a lot of fun. A lot of us still have MTX's that are running. There are more mods for the MTX and a lot more people putting more power through the MTX.

Who's to say some of the parts wont come back at a later date?

An ATX would be a very nice DD if you can live with the mpg. The MTXs are not great on gas but they are better. With an ATX I would concentrate on suspension, brakes, and put a solid motor mount on it then call it a day.

If you can work on cars yourself, then you will be fine with either a mtx or atx.

Of course, if I had to deal with CA traffic, I'd want an atx too...

Man, don't be scared to own a SHO, get it! :)
I live in Mexico and this car was never sold here so imagine how hard was to get a hold of parts. Lots of research had to be done, but it has been interesting and fun. Obviously I've spent a whole lot of $$ on the car, but I love it.

I have an ATX and is a good daily driver with a lot of power.

The good people in this forum have been of Great help with issues, questions, etc. So don't be afraid and jump into the SHO crowd, we can help!

I would get an ATX if you want a daily driver, that's what I wanted since my other car is an MTX Mustang and kills my left foot when I drive it, but it's also a lot of fun.

The 93-95 SHO used the AX4S transmission, the 96-99 used the AX4N. Both are versions that are specific to the SHO so a tranny from a regular Taurus won't work.

However parts are still available for them.

I was a little worried about finding parts for mine after buying it. After you look around a bit there are plenty of places to buy parts. You just have to learn where to look, we will help you out also.

So BUY it.

the final drive ratio is different from other Taurii, but the same as the Windstar. The clutch packs have one extra set of frictions. There are a couple other things I don't recall right off the top...

so when doing a rebuild you can basically "ask" a shop to install extra sets of friction clutch packs if they don't know that a SHO AX4S needs them?
