ashtray removal??

i'd like to remove the ashtray in order to put something else there, is it possible to remove the ashtray and still leave the plastic cover intact? how hard would it be to remove it (does it screw in, or is this a cutting wheel job?

is this on the gen 2? if it is, all you have to do is grab that little lip on it and pull and it will come out.

wow i should really try a little harder out in the car before i post stuff. i feel like a n00b haha. anyway... if this all works according to plan, i'll have a nice custom interior piece in a few weeks... i'll let you all know what it is once it's done and i have pics... :****:
