I damaged my passenger mirror. I want to buy a replacement and swap my colored cover for a chrome one.
Can this be easily done, once the mirror is removed from the door? Thanks in advance.

Ok, found this after a search. I think it covers it. Thanks.

... the glass has to be removed to access the motor and cover. Position the mirror glass to the full upward and inward position. This will allow' access to four clips under the glass that can be released with a screwdriver blade. (It is recommended that you place a shop towel between the mirror glass and your hands in case of breakage.) Facing the mirror glass, the clips are about 2, 4, 8 & 10 o'clock. Start at the lower outboard tab and continue around the mirror until all four tabs are released. Once the mirror glass is off, you will be able to access 4 exterior mirror cover retaining tabs from the inside top of the mirror assembly. BOOM, the cover is off.
P.S. DO NOT BREAK THE GLASS! You'll wish you had taken it to the dealer, because it'll be about a $350.00 mistake."

Thought I'd post a few pics what the inside of this mirror assembly looks like. There are three tabs at the top, but the outboard one is the real biotch (last pic). A fourth tab seems more like an alignment tab. You just push it outward. As you can see the tabs holding the mirror in place are close to the center and attach it to the disk that swivels it. The glass was actually fairly easy to remove. The cover I removed from the inside tab moving outward (once the glass was removed). Broke the last tab off the cover, but J-B Weld should fix that. I might try some velcro, if it doesn't feel totally secure.

Got the entire mirror off Ebay for $95 shipped
