are remote car starters common?

Hey Skippie,

I used to have one in my 92 LX. Since you have an ATX, it is quite simple and should not take long at all, with the provided instructions, now that is provived it doed not control door locks, etc.
As far as 5-spds go, it's a little more involved and I don't know about other people, but I don't know if I can trust myself to leave it parked in neutral all the time. Interestingly, with my astro start unit, it seemed as though it had some problems when it was very cold out, some days the door locks wouldn't work, other days it wouldn't start, but maybe I just had a defective unit.

technically, cars are best driven at slow city type speeds until warmed up rather than warm at idle; research has shown that idle warmups cause more wear.

MY research has shown that it is much more comfortable taking off in a warm car. The minute amount of wear that may or may not occur is worth it to me. It is simply a mindset and a personal choice.

Yeah, but unfortunatly you have to start the car, so...either way, I would rather get into a warm car in the morning :)

I got one in my '93 ATX. It is a DEI Viper and includes 1500 foot remote start, keyless entry with trunk release, and 5 zone alarm. If you decide to go with a remote start, get one from DEI, either a Viper, Python, or Sidewinder. installation is pretty smooth, but you will need a 451m door lock module from dei to hook up the keyless entry ( or wire up a couple relays).

I put one into my friend's car not too long ago. It was one made by bulldog security. While the instalation instructions were a good help and it was fairly easy, i don't recomend that you get bulldog security products. They are real cheep. She dropped the remote once or twice and it fell appart. If i were you i would spend an extra few bucks on a remote starter that is strong and durable. If you have any questions on how to hook it up, i can tell you about my experiences, but like i said, stay away from the cheep bulldog security starters. They will brake.
