I am planning on installing a rebuilt ATX tranny this weekend. The tranny already has the TransGo shift kit installed. Is there anything tricky about this project? I have replaced an MTX trans before by myself and was planning on dropping the subframe to replace the tranny. Any tricks or things I should look out for? How much fluid do you put in the TQ before installing? I will be replacing the rear main seal, carrier gasket, oil pan gasket, gen III sfbs, and rod bearings-maybe. Thanks.

Have help. ATX weigh about twice as much as a MTX.

I've picked up MTX's and stabbed them by myself but you really need two people to help with the ATX.

Agreed -- have help.

The ATX R&R isn't much different than an MTX, you just have to remember the TC nuts, the bolts under the P/S pump and all 3 electrical connections.

As mentioned, the weight of the ATX is the biggest danger. Drop an MTX tranny on you and you'll probably live, an ATX might just **** 'ya! If you can, rent a real tranny jack from a tool-rental type place, it will make the whole thing a lot easier.

You are not kidding, that thing is heavy. The MTX was quite easy to move around, the ATX weigh 50lbs more. Lifting the ATX into the back of my wife's Pacifica by myself almost required a good fart.

Ya I had to lift my ATX in and outta a create 5 times. Heavy lil things. Too bad I wasn't liftin at the time like I am now. Woulda made it alot easier. Loadin 3 torque converters in didn't help either.
