I recently pulled my C7 out of winter storage and found my oil life is at 35%. When I parked it, it was at 90%. How annoying! Bad part is the GM requires the new Dexos 2 in this car which is still hard to find. Good part is I'm still under the free oil changes by GM.

Yea i noticed that with my c6 a couple times. It would say 5% oil life remaining and bug me and then it wouldnt say anything and if i randomly looked it would say like 40% remaining. And then i say, oh now your oils fine...woman

Fortunately, you don't have to look far, Castrol Edge Titanium FST 0W-30, or Castrol Edge C3 5W-30 are Dexos2 licensed.

Also, before you go crazy changing synthetic at 2500 miles:

Ford's SAE paper "Characterization of Anti-Wear Films Formed from Fresh and Aged Engine Oils"
Conclusion: They found aged oil has significantly greater antiwear and lower friction properties than fresh oil.

Thanks, good news as the under hood label states Mobil 1 esp dexos2 required, of which I haven't found anywhere.

I still haven't found the dexos2 0w40 yet in any brand, at least in my area other than the dealer, who won't sell it over the counter. The car is brand new so I want to follow the under hood sticker requirements when the time comes.

Dexos2 is meant really for direct injection vehicles, so 0W20 and 5W30 are the most commonly certified weights. I see some brands (e.g. Quaker State) touting the cert even for 5W20, but not many yet.

Here's your OEM oil.
https://www.amazon.com/Mobil1-123875-Formula-Engine-Quarts/dp/B07MXPNH7S
https://www.thelubricantstore.com/mobil-1-esp-formula-0w-40-case-6-quarts

There's an interesting oil performance tool here, just note that the dexos2 "Min T" (TBN?) is wrong in that site's specs, the ESP oil is 8.5.

Another consideration if you want to go beyond, or a track day oil, is Castrol Edge supercar 10W-60, which is spec for BMW M3 and others.

Dexos labeling requires a fee paid to GM per gallon, so you may have compliant oil that is not "certified".

PS: Just run 5W-30 in your G2 SHO, BTW. 5W-20 was re-spec'd for all 90's cars by Ford for fuel economy - excluding SHO. Higher HTHS specs are optimal for finer tolerance parts such as bearing gaps.

Rockauto has a 6 gallon bag-in-box of Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Full Synthetic (XO5W306GFS) - $3.70 a quart, which is lower than the Amazon prime day's lowest ever price for Castrol Edge. Then add forum discount.
