I have two 3rd Gen SHOs, a '96 and a '98, both Tor. Red. Beautiful color but the one I've always had on my want list is a MWG, available on the SHO '96 only. Last one I saw for sale that wasn't more than a rusted parts car was two or three years ago. Wondering if there are any here. As an aside, here's my two reds, a 63k mile '96 and a 71k mile '98. Welded cams on each of course (FPS did the '96 and Rickety the '98). I've owned a lot of cars and currently have a '17 Giulia as a DD but there's just something about the 3rd gen SHO I've always really loved. It's not a sports car, not real fast off the line, but apart from the fixable cam issue it's just a really well-made car with a gorgeous engine and I love the love-it-or-hate-it styling; always have.IMG 7754b IMG 1564

Both of mine are Medium Willow Green. I had to choose between a while with Pin stripe of the green, but the Green won. I would love to get the rare Purple myself. Both of mine are about 150K as they have been DD's.

I had a purple. Loved it, let it go, a casualty of my (then) near-constant game of car merry-go-round. Wish I still had it. To this day the most economical car I've owned. I DD'd it a few years; when I sold it I calculated it cost me about $.10 a mile, not counting gas/insurance (IOW, purchase minus sale $ plus maintenance). That's less than half of my next best car.

Can I see pics of your MWGs?View attachment 12482

Once you fix the cam sprockets and keep in mind that the transmission was not designed for stop light racing, the Gen III becomes a remarkably reliable and able sports sedan, easily able to equal or better the 3 series BMWs of its day that it was designed to compete with. Its low production numbers and short manufacturing run revolve pretty much entirely around Ford's really bad ability to market the machine.

I keep missing my GenIII. If I had a spare $1200 I'd pick up that $500 white car if the mileage wasn't too bad on the tranny.
If/when I need a new transmission I'd probably go for that upgraded one SHO Source sells, though I haven't looked into any feedback yet. These cars are too nice to let die for lack of a robust transmission.

These cars really look good in white, when they're clean. I love the way the white splits the taillight assemblies, very sharp.

I worked in the auto industry when the Gen III's came out. I spent a lot of time in Ford's Louisville and St. Louis assy plants and was really rooting for the Gen III Taurus. I was surprised at how quickly Ford seemed to abandon the SHO as they sold in decent numbers in '96 and '97. Maybe many (too many) were Executive loaners; my first was, a '97 I bought in '98 with 9k miles on it for about 2/3 the original price. Still had the Auburn Hills country club golf card under the driver's seat. Sweet car, Pacific Green over saddle. I sold it when I got the hots for an SVT Contour. I really loved Ford cars of that era.
