I was wondering if anyone else that has a Gen III or other Gen's ever had a vibration or shake in the front end while they are driving? When I am driving it feels like the steering wheel is going to vibrate right off. It just started about 5 days ago. Its not that bad but it is buggin the heck out of me!!!! Anyone have an ideas what this is????????

could be a couple of things. I drive a GEN3 that has had a constant vibration for a while. Some of the factors that cause it could range from a bad CV joint to just a matter of a tyre mis-balance.

I don't know the quality of the rotors on the gen 3's, but I know gen 1's are real crappy. Check to make sure the rotors are not warped or cracked. That and like cartfan said, check the tire balance.

Bad rotors
Bad brake pads
Other front end problems like tie rods, etc.
Bent rim
Unbalanced tires
Separated belt in the tire

These are just a few problems that it could be. Start with the cheapest fix first or take it to a shop and have them evaluate it for ya.

I have a vibration in my front end also. It's not bad except when I'm going slow (wobbles) or when I hit about 80. After that it evens out a bit. Thus far I've had the front end stuff checked, replaced the front struts/bearings, replaced the front rotors/pads and it's still there. I'm leaning more towards belt separation in the tire now because it's gotten worse since we went to the track in Indiana.

I used to have a bad vibration at 80mph.. beyond that it was fine.. below fine.. Now that vibration has moved to 75mph.. Im not sure what it is.. gonna replace the tires first and get them balanced since they are on their last legs.. If that doesnt fix it.. ill figure it out.. Do a search for vibration at 80mph.. someone had that problem and fixed some suspension piece up front from a while back.. BTW.. i have a 93

I have the same problem with my gen2 right now....I blew a tire, got a cheap replacement, and now it vibrates like heck at about 60-80mph then smooths out.

How ever, I do have warped rotors and probably bad brake pads.

*sigh*...

Well, my experience has been the following: On my 94 ATX I replaced all the tires, and all but 1 rim with ones from a 60K SHO.... Well, that one rim had a bend in it, on the inside that I did not see, so it shook and shimmied a bit at low and high speeds... My current 95 MTX has a bit of a shake at around 70-75, but anywhere after 80, its smooth sailing, so before I was thinking it was my rim(s) in front, but I ruined 2 of em last week, and now have tbird ones on the front, still a slight shake. however, I think a good balance is in order regardless, and I did have a weight fall off of my 17, which had effected that one... Sorry for the long rant, but I hope you get yours fixed, but first off, i woudl have a shop check the balance, and go from there.. GOOD LUCK!

does it change w/speed? An imbalanced rim usually doesn't show itself below 50 mph, unless it's real bad. Did it come on gradually? Or suddenly? If it was sudden, it could have thrown a balance weight. A quick reasonably easy etst would be rotating your tires front/rear. Do one side at a time. If it's a balance problem, you'll see the difference.

Warped braked rotors will only show up as a vibration under braking. I had the same problem on my 92. It turned out to be the R/F wheel bearing was going out. GOOD LUCK!!!

Are you sure about that? I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything, but I just want to be positive that it's not my rotors. If that's the case, then it must be something else.
However, a seized slider pin would be noticable when just driving, right?

well, I think it is a combination of my brake rotors warped and the caliper sticking.

The brake job that was done on it just before I got it was ****....
