I just bought an oil pan from another member last week and it got here today. Come to find out this pan is different than the one on my car. Does anybody know if any oil pan will fit any Sho engine or what might be going on here? I know there's a difference between the pan on a 3.0 and a 3.2 but will they interchange? Here's a little background, my car is a 91 plus and it has had a 3.2 swap done in the past by the previous owner. I don't know what year engine it is or details of how the swap was done. The pan I bought is believed to be for a 3.0 again unknown year. My engine has all the 3.0 accessories which from what I understand means it should have a 3.0 oil pump which I would have thought meant it would have a 3.0 oil pan as well? Does anybody know the differences between all the pans and if they changed throughout the years? My research says that they will interchange but I want to know for sure if the new pan will fit my engine/trans and if it would need anything else like the pickup tube or windage tray or anything else than just the pan swapped before I take the one off my engine. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Luigisho after looking around some more I think the pan on my engine may be for the 3.2. The main differences are that on the old pan has the oil level sender on the firewall side of the engine and the new pan has the level sender on the radiator side. Also the drain plug on the old one is also more toward the center of the sump and the new pan the drain plug is toward the transmission side of the pan. I can try to post some pictures later. Does anybody know of anything inside needs to be changed or not? All the info I can find is from people doing swaps and have both engines sitting there. They say just swap pans but I wanted to verify.

Damnit, shotimes is down now. Can't people afford $15 a year?

According to this I would infer that the oil pan and oil pump need to be from the same engine.

Don't forget that Tim did the first 3.2 swap and that was a long time ago. Several variants have come along since the first one, including using either the 3.2 or 3.0 heads and/or cams, oil pumps and pans, etc. I haven't done enough 3.2 conversions without swapping over all the 3.0 stuff to know all the different ways it can be done. I think there are people around that might be able to answer the question about pump and pan compatibility.

Just for future reference I verified the new pan was a 3.2 pan and the one on my engine was a 3.0. I went ahead and tried to swap them anyway and the pan does physically fit the engine no problem. The pickup tube and oil pump must be the same between the two. The only problems I ran into was exhaust clearance. It did fit with my shosource equal length catless y pipe but it's very tight and required some grinding of the fins on the back of the pan. I heard that the with a catted y pipe it will not clear the pan where the front cat is. Also one of the bolt holes on the bottom of the 3.2 pan does not line up with the hole on the MTX bellhousing and the oil level sender is in the wrong side of the pan as the other thread says.

I think the oil pumps in the 2 engines are a bit different but they may be physically similar enough to fit or you may have one with the 3L oil pump swapped over

I believe you're correct, there is a difference between the oil pumps as well but I think it's on the mounting surface for the timing covers. I was just thinking along the lines of it fitting the oil pan. Thanks for pointing that out. I forgot. Lol
