So it looks like I may be having to tear the top of the motor down to the block, replace my rod bearings, and tear off the front end to fix a few leaks and replace the timing belt. I figure the whole job would be much easier if I just unbolt the tranny and pull the engine out and work on it while attached to an engine stand.

Is there a walk-through anywhere online for removing the motor??? If I were only doing a few little things I'd just leave the motor in place but I know from the past how difficult it is to get to things and I'm not sure I have the patience this year to fight in small corners again. If there aren't any walk-through's out there can anyone list what needs to be done and any tips on how to do certain things??

I did do a few searches but didn't find anything on what I was looking for, so I apologize if there is a thread out there and I missed it while searching. Thanks in advance!!

Just my experience, but I would suggest dropping the subframe with the motor and transmission attached. It is much easier than pulling the motor from the top IMHO.

Ace and I did his '89 out the top, and earlier this year we did his '93 out the bottom ( friend with a lift). He hangs a lot on the NESHOC board, you might try to pm him for his take on one over the other. My take on it, depends if the car needs to be mobile(moved)with the motor out. Good luck with it.

Hey thanks for your help guys. Being that I don't have a lift I'm going to pull everything from the top. I've gotten just about everything disconnected and I'm probably a few days from attempting to yank the motor out with a hoist. I just would like to know if I should leave the tranny attached to the motor or not. I still haven't heard any reasons why to do it one way or the other, so if anyone knows please chime in!! Thanks again!!

my experience has been that it muuuuch easier to pull the trans and the motor as one unit since I've done it both ways.
