ok, so i was doing my first headunit install and all was going fine until i noticed that whenever i turn on my headlights, a fuse blows and i don't have gauge lights.

the alpine has a wire for "illumination" and the harness does as well. i connected these and here i am.
what the alpine doesnt have is a dimmer+ and dimmer-, which is on the harness.
i'm pretty sure my problem has to do with how i wired this part, any suggestions to fix it?
how has anyone else who owns this hu done it?
i'd tinker with it but it got late and i have work in the morning.
thanks alot.

Ive got an alpine but im not sure which series it is, its the one with the motorized tilting face and its a din 1/2.... When i installed mine i just didnt connect the illumination wire since the radio is illuminated at all times. If the light from the radio bothers you at night then that could be a problem. but for me i just capped the wire and left it alone. I dont guess that helped you any but i thought id tell ya what i did....... Good luck

thanks anyhow.
i got a good rest and then took it out.
you're supposed to leave the "illumination" wire from the harness untouched and plug the illumination from the alpine into dimmer + on the harness.
problem solved. :****:

You don't connect that wire. It is capped by either a but connector or cut it flush and tape it back to itself.

You only need to connect the speaker wires and constant power, ignition power, ground and sometimes antenna power if you have a 92& up SHO.

Hope that helps. :thumb:

thanks, i got it up and running.
say, does anyone have any idea why my radio has very poor reception all the sudden?
it worked fine until i pulled the old radio out and put the new one in.
then that night i noticed:

1) i only get good reception sitting still, if the car is in motion it's all static.

2)even if i'm sitting still, if someone isnt sitting in the car, it gets poor reception (some theory about human bodies being conducters etc.).

it was like night and day, factory radio: good reception, alpine: bad.

anyone know what may cause this?
