I am replacing my antenna mast with the GM Metra replacement for the 'vette on my SHO. However, I am having 2 problems.

First of all, the installation was easy, although a bit confusing. There is a sleeve that can slide off the antenna mast and appears to be too big to fit into the tube in the motor housing. In addition to this, I put the antenna and nylon string in, then replaced the chrome nut...but the problem here again is that the lip on the bottom, largest antenna section is too large to go down into the tube...this results in the antenna operating fine, but stopping short of retracting all the way. The whole (now retracted) antenna remains above the fender, when before, the top of the antenna went down until it was even with the fender.

Second, with the antenna wire now plugged in, I still do not get reception...any ideas here? Everything seems to be clean enough...

Thanks for the help! By the way, here is the antenna I bought...

Gary, I'd like to help you out but it's been over a year since I replaced my antenna mast with the corvette one and I forgot the details. I didn't have any issues with the sleeve, although I can't recall if I used the original or the one that came with the new mast. The 'vette mast is actually a tad shorter than the oem, on mine it retracts far enough where it's even down inside the "base" on the fender a little.

Hopefully someone who recently did this repair it will chime in with a better recollection of things.

I believe I have figured out the installation problem...I removed the antenna tube attached to the motor housing and slid that over the antenna mast, then re-attached it...haven't been able to install the whole contraption yet...but I have a feeling there will still be no reception, although it's possible that is a stereo problem.

What kind of system do you have (JBL, aftermarket, other)? Have you had a chance to pull the HU and take a look at the antenna wire connection there?
