Over the past year I have been to busy to keep up with this forum so I've lost track if their are any locals on this forum who are not in the Alberta SHO club.

I would like to extend this invite to any SHO owner who is willing to make the drive, last year we had a guy drive up from Montana, but this year we would really like to see more people from Manitoba, Sask, BC, Montana etc. Last year we had 17 SHO's and this year I would expect more than 25. Please email us at [email protected], or visit our forum at albertashoclub.ca

Hello,

It's that time where we start to plan and prepare for our third annual Alberta SHO Club BBQ. With all the new members that have been contacting us lately, this years should be bigger and better than ever before. Since our last BBQ we have been getting a lot of new members from the southern half of the province, so this year we would like to hold it at a neutral site that will hopefully encourage many new faces to show up, while still making it easy for the regulars from the Edmonton area to meet each other again. There has been a consensus from users on our forum that a location around Red Deer would be suitable.

The exact location has not been determined yet, but it will have all the amenities we need. I will also look into renting a large tent(s) since so many people put so much effort into attending this, and last year was a very close call with the weather.

Now here is where we need your help, please get back to us with what date will work better for you or if you are indifferent. Because we have always had success holding it on Sundays that will not change, so the choices are:

Sunday, June 19
Sunday, June 26

In addition to choosing a venue that is easier for everybody to get too, we will put up notices end extend invites to other SHO owners beyond Alberta. I strongly believe that attendance will easily pass last year's 17 SHO's, and 25-30 is a possibility for this year.

We still have to work out the food situation. We could go with the BBQ again, or we could always try something new like a potluck.

I will also make an attempt to make it more of a full afternoon event. I'm not sure exactly what this might include, but some ideas could be a nice cruise, mini golf, go carts, or we could bring croquet sets, bocce balls, etc.

An idea some of you may be interested in is driving to the location in caravans. Not only is it a safer, but driving in a long line of SHO's is a pretty cool experience.

I strongly encourage you to try to make it. Many people only make it to this one event every year and there are always many new faces.

Please check out the discussion on our forum, http://nelson.macd.ca/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=341 if you want to suggest something or have any comments. Or as always send us an email. The more people who get back to us with ideas and dates the more fun it will be for everybody.

Sincerely,
Lindsey Trufyn

Alberta SHO club's third annual BBQ, Sunday June 26

Please get back to us if you are planning on making it, or hoping to make it.

Location

Great Chief Park in Red Deer. There are three large parking lots within the park, the first group that arrives should try to park in the area that is least busy.

Any exit off Highway 2 (turn east) will lead you to Taylor Drive. Take the first left north of the river, that will be Kerry Wood Drive. The first left from Kerry Wood Drive will be Fountain drive. From there you take the first left into the park.

Here is a map (park roads not included)

Food

Everybody pretty much agreed that a BBQ is the way to go. Once again I'll supply the pop/hamburgers/hot dogs/buns condiment's. If everybody could throw in three or four bucks depending on how much they eat it would be appreciated. I have broke even the past couple of years so hopefully the same will happen this year. I'll also bring our BBQ, If somebody else could volunteer to bring theirs that would be great. My parents will arrive in our Expedition, so it wouldn't be a problem to drop by the night before and pick it up, since it probably won't fit in any SHO.

Times

The Edmonton caravan will leave the Save on Foods Parking lot on Calgary Trail at 10:00.

As far as I know nobody has organized anything from Calgary yet.

Please sign up on the forum if you are planning on driving in the caravan. I encourage you if you have them please bring long distance multi channel radios. I'm not sure exactly what they are called but they are the ones that were really popular a couple years ago. From our last discussion Tom and I decided that I'll lead, and keep the speed in cruise around 120.

The plan is to be at the go cart/mini-golf/driving range at 11:30. It is located on the north side of highway 11A on the west side of Gaetz ave. The go carts looked pretty decent, but the min-golf wasn't very impressive. I don't have the prices off hand, but I believe the go carts were $12 for 12 minutes or $20 bucks for half an hour. Depending on the size of the group a discount will be made.

From there we will make our way to the park for the BBQ at 1:00.

A group picture will be taken at 1:30 so please be there by then. We will somehow attempt to organize all the SHO's so we can get them all in a quality photo as well as some various group pictures. Depending on the outcome of the pictures I would like to see large posters made. I'll also look into photoshoping it, so we can include the date, logo etc. If somebody has a suitable camera please let me know.

I'm expecting that by 4:00 we will start to wrap things up. But of course that doesn't really matter.

I'm not sure what how much process is being made on the new window decals and business cards. Hopefully we can get them done for the 26th.

As always please feel free to bring family and friends.

As far as I know I've included everything, I'll be sure to send out any updates or additional info as it comes up.

Please get back to us if you are planning on making it, or hoping to make it.

Thanks,
Lindsey Trufyn
