Amusing SHO Comments

I really enjoy Autocrossing my SHO. Not only is it a fun car to drive, but in the pits it is often a topic of conversation. Not in the same way as the Lotus next to it, but conversation none the less. Here are some interesting things I have heard, what about you?

Other Driver- "Umm... Are you racing a taxi?"

Spectator- "It looked like you were shifting."
Me- "I was, it's a 5 speed manual."
Spectator- "They never made a manual Taurus."
He thought I was joking and he was not going to fall for it.

Other driver- "So why did you bring your Mom's car?"

From several people on several occasions- "Nice engine, what is it out of?"

I was at an autocross where a guy was pointing to my r-comps as I was staging and yelled, "hes got those on that thing" meanwhile he was running a maxima.

The usual comment I get is, "Good for you" like I’m a two year old who just learned to use the toilet.

From the "doubters" and other folk who have not a clue what a SHO is:

"Dude, I admire you. Must take some serious balls to autocross a Taurus."

"Is that . . . actually a Ford . . . Taurus??"

"HA HAHA HA . . . he's driving a Taurus!!!"

"Oh, you really gonna drive that "thing"??"



Then, after they see it run:

"Does that thing have a ***?", where *** = turbo, supercharger, or V8.

"That Taurus is faster than it deserves to be!!"

"I can't believe your f*cking Taurus just beat my STI !!??"

"What in the world did you do to that thing" (as if, very little credit ever goes to the driver.)

"Man, I HATE you!!!! I HATE you!!!! I HATE you!!!!"



I get a lot of the "good for you" comments too.

And often a lot looks of disbelief and anger from the Porsche / BMW crowd.

"Is that thing turbo?!"

"Yea, that's the year that ford put the Yamaha fuel injection into Taurus's"

Well mine isnt really a comment but at a used car lot I got offered a trade on a 2001 explorer straight up just because my car was so clean and "rare" The salesman looked at me like I was driving a Ferrari or something.

at autocross last weekend we just let people talk amonst themselves about the turbo atx. numerous people tried to find the turbo but couldnt. and i think i heard someone say "why does it sound like it has a BOV?"

2 others found it humorous that it has a CF hood on it ... 3 more couldnt figure out why the car has boost, wb02 and tranny temp gauges

Haha my favorite is, "Why do you drive your Taurus like its something special? Its a Ford POS!"

I respond with, "Haha thats why this 14 year old Taurus ATE your Camaro RS during lunch awhile back." Then everyone in class laughs and they kno its true so they dont even try to argue.

(A kid in my Auto Class who always brings this subject up.)

And, "Why is your Taurus eqipped with a 5 speed?"

the most common one that i hear is "SHO, thats the taurus that they put the supercharged engine from the t-bird SC right?" I reply "nope, it's a yamaha V6"
they kinda giggle and think i'm joking until they see my straight face, then they stop and walk away like they just had to interact with a retard and don't want to offend me.

My friend at work auto crosses a 79 faded blue fairmont with a factory 5.0 four speed. now has a 92 5.0 roller motor and a 95 cobra 5 speed and lots of mods. Pulled a g on the skid pad last year. You should see the look on peoples face when a beat up faded blue Fairmont kicks thier butt.

Next time tell them it's a 12 sec Taurus and see how they react.

I would love to see you autox that baby with some R-comps or slicks and see how far their jaws drop!!

it is interesting thats for sure. i get tons of coments when i'm on my work asignment. for example I went to a out of region autoX 2 weeks ago so only a few people knew about my car and since it looks mostly stock. nobody knew it was boosted and the BOV ins't that loud when compared to the engine screaming at 4-8K.

at a work asignment a guy was talkign about the crazy guy racing a green taurus. I asked how it ran (keep in mind i knew he was talking about my car) he said it looked really fast but the driver needs some practice. i shook his hand and said "hi i'm the driver of that car" he looked embarrised but i agreeded with him that i need a lot of practice. the car is extremely difficlut to turn becuase i can't physicaly turn the wheel fast enough. i need a quicker ration rack or smaller steering wheel or something. i'm a ok driver i would say average maybe even below everage but the car makes me look good. + i can say well its not bad for a 2 ton boat and my poor driving turn into them saying something like.

"Dude, I admire you. Must take some serious balls to autocross a Taurus."

-Me "That SHO over there."
-OR "Of course it's a SHO and not a Taurus, because you would have to be crazy to bring a Taurus to an autocross."

Got another one:

Was at Team Chevrolet applying for a job b/c Ford didnt need any workers. Anyway, one of the Chevy Salesman looked at me when it was idling and leaned down to the window and said, " What is that the Taurus that came with the 5.0 in it?"
I laughed and said, "No it has a 3.0 Yamaha."
Then he responded, "Oh that must have been a project you did at home?"
I laughed even harder and said, "No its factory installed." And drove of with a 2nd scratch leaving all of them puzzled of what they saw while they had customers looking at a C6 who were also looking at me.
