where does this plug in at? the amp in the driver side rear was the closest in size to what i have and it didnt fit that. i cant figure out where it would go behind the headunit if it does.
anyway i got it all wired up with the amp integration harness. got power and everything to it, but no sound at all. not even fuzz. i have no idea what could be the problem.
any suggestions?
TIA

The amp bypass harness goes in the trunk... the harness going to the amp plugs into one end, while the harness coming out of the same amp goes to the other end of the hanrness; therefore "bypassing the amp". Now the signal can come from the stereo - bypass the amp - then go to the speakers.

ok ill go look at it again. but if it is the amp i think it is, the harness dont mate up. the factory amp harness is a lil thinner. the amp that i think it is, is on the passenger side. the one on the driver side, has a real long white harness, it cannot be the one.
thanks for the reply

I had the same problem with my SHO when I installed a new head unit. Full power to everything but no sound. Even the counter on the CD player counts, but no sound.

Tap the brake pedal. That's what I have to do in my car every time I start it to get sound from the speakers. Sometimes u may have to tap it a few times or with the clutch in. Putting it in reverse works some times too.

that seems absurd. then something isnt right.
anyway there are 2 square connectors in the back that connected to the factory head unit. i am only using one of them. the other is just hanging unplugged. does that sound right?
thanks again

There should be two plugged in behind the stereo IIRC, the grey flat connector is for power while the square one is for the speakers. I can probably get a pic for you later.

Do you have a factory sub?

If you need to tap on the brake pedal something is not right.

You can disconnect the component amp completely and not even use it. There's already a grey and a black cable behind the dash. Both plugs look the same, just are different colors. The grey one is for power and the black one is for the speakers (minus the sub). This, essentially, by-passes the amp by default.

If you cannot see the black one, feel around to the left of the top DIN slot, right down and to the right of the foglight switch. This is what I did, and the harness you can use to hook your headunit into these two plugs is super cheap as it's made for any 92-95 Taurus (GL, SE, LX, SHO).

The narrow white plug on the driveside back seat you will not use, don't bother touching that.

You can, though, get an amp-bypass harness and do what 40BelowSummer is talking about. Those harnesses are usually a bit pricier. You will also have to get a Ford Premium wire harness for your headunit as well. This is most ideal if you do not want to splice/solder/crimp/etc. - though, it's not necessary if you just want it to work and dont care about chopping wires :thumb:

yeah i bought the kit for everything
amp bypass harness, headunit harness, and the factory amps. but there is only one harness for the factory amps that came with the kit! i have 2 square pin connectors that were in teh back of the factory unit and the kit only came with one. the one that i plugged into is an 8pin for the door speakers.
i am thinking the other one is for the rear panel adn sub? anyway im goin to go try again and ill take a pic.
thanks fo the replies

Shouldnt be a problem. Remove the window/doorlock switch panel, a few philip screws and the door panels pop off. You'll probably need to pick up a few extra door panel clips when youre ready to put them back on, as some of them might break; but thats normal.

To get to the rears I think you need to partially remove the back seat, IIRC. The bottom portion slides out if you push it towards the trunk while pushing down, then lift up; pretty simple. Two 10mm bolts hold down the backrest portion of the back seats, IIRC. Once its removed you should have access to the rear speakers after you lift the rear package tray up a little bit.

Pretty straight forward. Good luck. :thumb:
